COVID-19 COURT UPDATE EFFECTIVE ON AUGUST 25, 2020

Safe Futures’ family violence victim advocates continue to serve victims throughout the pandemic. Advocates will accompany clients to court for criminal and civil cases with proper COVID protocols in place. These include maintaining 6-feet distances and all are required to wear a mask.

Criminal Court Family Violence Victim Advocate

Currently, the New London court is located at:
70 Huntington Street, New London, Connecticut. 

 

Hours are as follows:

Monday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The criminal family violence victim advocate works with you from the time of arrest through the arraignment and court process to:

  • Provide a risk and lethality assessment
  • Advocate for protective orders
  • Ensure your rights as a victim
  • Prepare victim impact statements
  • Counseling and referrals

Safe Futures victim advocates are the only people who can ensure total confidentiality within the court.

The civil family violence victim advocate works with you to navigate the court process including:

  • Applying for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) from abuse
  • Attend TRO hearings as your advocate
  • Assist you with domestic violence-related court paperwork regarding custody, visitation, and financial assistance
  • Counseling and referrals
